Douglas Education Center Hosted GRC Networking Event
An evening GRC Networking event was hosted by Douglas Education Center on Thursday, May 28th. The evening started with a walking tour of the Douglas Education facility. GRC Members were given a tour of the buildings and classrooms by staff members, Tara Darazio, Victoria Cochran, John Matechen, and Robert Tinnell.
The tour stared at the 7th Street Administration Building and proceeded to the Tom Savani Special Effect Makeup School and Studio. This building is the most distinct and noticeable on the DEC Campus.
The members got a firsthand look at the classrooms and studios, and were able to see much of the work and special effects that are created by the students.
The tour concluded at the Van Keulen Complex which is home to the DEC Digital Film School. The tour included stops at the soundstage, sound effects studio, computer and editing classrooms.
The main lobby area of the building is decorated in a Tuscany theme and features a marble fountain that was flown in from Italy. The group stopped on the second floor of the Van Keulen Complex for refreshments, and then concluded the tour stopping on the third floor to see a multi-purpose type space that is used as an event venue. The highlight of the evening was a visit to the fourth floor which showcased several rooms decorated from scenes of famous movies. The “Jaws” bedroom featured a headboard with a shark bite, and hand-painted wall murals of the beach and ocean waters. The “Godfather” bedroom was complete with every detail, right down to the bullet holes in the walls!
The group was amazed to see and learn about what takes place in these buildings in Monessen. DEC has transformed empty warehouses, storefronts and office buildings into an awesome work space for the students. They bring in some of the top, well know instructors in the field of Special Effects, Editing and Film Making. We learned that DEC has enrollment from 49 states and overseas as well, and offers student living in and around the city of Monessen.
DEC has plans to refurbish other buildings in the area and looks for steady growth with student enrollment. The GRC members were appreciative of the tour given and look forward to future events held at DEC.
The GRC congratulates Jeff Imbrescia and Staff at Douglas Education Center for the accomplishments achieved so far and we offer our best wishes for continued growth and success!
